Hello, I went to the area Kenneth mentioned, the parking lot at Circuit City and Barnes & Noble just south of the Broadway Square Mall. When I got there the high wire on the Circuit City side had a row of maybe 100 martins roosting. Directly below them was a row of bradford pear trees. Underneath these trees showed little evidence of a martins roost. There was droppings, most likely from them roosting on the high wire, but there was no roost "smell". The 100 or so martins would roost then swoop off, doing this several times. So I started scanning the sky with the binocs. What I saw along a high wire on Broadway street behind the mall were 1000s of starlings roosting. 1000s of martins were swirling several hundred feet all over the south side of the mall parking lot! It was very evident that this area was a substantial martin and starling roosting area. I would estimate 40 + thousand martins and just as many starlings were doing their "pre-roosting" show. The difference being, I noticed, was that martins would be in huge swirls several hundred feet up. Sometimes they would roost in small groups on a surrounding high wire or trees then swoop off to swirl some more. Starlings stayed at a high wire/tree level. Gathering on high wires and tips of trees. Swooping from high wire to high wire, tree to tree. For more you can check this Landing Page Explainers
